Dot Bardarson
Dot likes to tell a story with her art and stretch your imagination. Her NW themes are exuberant, with colorful, well-balanced design and a willingness to take risks. As a well known Alaskan of award winning watercolors and public art commissions, she has also been an art juror, artist in residence, amateur theater set designer, and past board member of the Alaska State Council on the Arts.
Dot’s early career included deck-handing on SE Alaska work boats and raising her family in remote fish canneries.
In Seward, where she lives now, she owned for 20 years the popular Bardarson Studio, representing 35 Alaskan artists. Now retired, she has not slowed down, continuing to paint and assume leadership roles with the arts in Seward.
In 2013 and 2014 Dot was an art delegate for the Seward mural exchange with Obihiro, Japan. She was named "Alaska Artist of the Year" by TOSCA in 2011 and "One of America's favorite artists" in 2017. She was crowned "Queen of Arts" by the Seward Mural Society in 2014. She was the Master Artist for murals in 2007, 2008, 2009, and 2018. Finally, Dot was selected by the Alaska State Council on the Arts for the "Lifetime Achievement in the Arts Award" for the 2019 Governor's Awards for the Arts.
