My mom is a compulsive harvester. Among many other things she loves to pick berries, dig spruce roots, collect flowers, and then make jelly, Southeast Alaska native style baskets, and pressed flower art. All this collecting and creating was a big part of my childhood, especially pressing and using Alaska wildflowers. The cards and other items we created and then sold was how I made all my spending money most of which went into savings and eventually helped pay for college. Now, all these years later, mom is still collecting and pressing flowers and I am still making pressed flower notecards. Painting the amazing beauty found in nature is a logical progression from those early years of creating with flowers and of course my favorite thing to paint is Alaska wildflowers.
